The Contours crib mattress cover is not removable, but the bamboo fibers do feature Crypton Green Technology, which is an eco-friendly and Oeko-Tex Certified wet-proofing and stain-resistant technology that helps keep the cover clean. The waterproof binding also helps to keep any liquids and soil from seeping inside so the entire cover can be wiped clean.

The Contours crib mattresses have labels sewn into the seams and it tells you which side is the infant side and which side is the toddler side. The Contours Soybean-Latex Foam crib mattress has the high-density soy foam on the infant side and the latex foam on the toddler side. The label side is the latex/toddler side and this information is printed on the permanent label.

We recommend flipping the mattress at 12 months or when the child is 20 pounds. Some parents like to flip the mattress to the toddler side at the age of 12 months while others wait until the child is between 18 and 24 months. All of these are acceptable since both sides are designed to be safely used for infants and toddlers. While infants should be placed on their back to sleep on the firmer side, a toddler will most likely find the softer latex side more cozy.

Hi Gene, great question. Yes, our latex foam is hypoallergenic and Oeko-Tex Certified, which is an international textile certification that tests for allergens, organic compounds and how the material affects a child and it is approved for safe for use with children. It contains a blend of natural latex and man-made latex. Latex foam used in bedding, pillows, mattresses and furnishings as a whole is safe to the touch as the foam does not contain any proteins, which is really what causes allergic reactions to natural latex in it's closed cell form. Latex foam is also an open cell structure so it is breathable, not like latex gloves or balloons, which are closed cell latex rubber as air or liquids should not pass through those types of latex products. Some product marketing can be very misleading and confusing when it comes to latex foam but it is considered a premium hypoallergenic foam that does not heat up and sink under a child's body weight and always bounces back into shape so you don't experience sagging like some other materials found in mattresses.

No, the Contours Soybean-Latex 2 Stage mattress is an all-foam crib and toddler bed mattress. It features high-density soy foam-core that is very firm and includes a hypoallergenic layer of latex on the toddler side of the mattress for a softer side. There are other options available that include steel innersprings, like the Contours Organic Cotton-Innerspring model that features layers of cotton and a coil structure.

Hi,

If this mattress does not have coil, does it mean that it has a shorter life comparing to a coil mattress?

What is the expected life time for this mattress? I am hoping i can use it for baby #2 as well.

Hi Maryam. While some families choose innerspring mattresses because of the steel core, other families like foam mattresses because they are more lightweight. This is a high-density foam-core and foam these days are very firm, sturdy and long-lasting. Our foam mattresses pass all the same durability testing that our innerspring mattresses pass. Innersprings have some bounce and resilience to them because the coils are heat tempered which makes them return to their original shape. High-density foam tends to have less give. You may see low density and bonded fiber thermo core foams on the market but they do not tend to pass the same durability tests that these foams do. You should have no problem using this mattress for many years and it comes with a lifetime warranty on workmanship and materials.

The label sewn into the mattress is on the toddler side, which features the latex foam. Latex foam is soft and provides more cushioning, while the infant side has the high density soybean foam core, which is firmer. Overall the mattress is designed to be durable, firm and supportive. The extra layer of premium latex foam helps relieve pressure on a toddler's growing body.
