The Sealy Posturepedic crib mattress is engineered with 220 PostureTech sensory coils that sense baby's movement and respond with increasing support. These adult grade coils provide Posturepedic support and are long lasting. The coils are 15 gauge, allowing the coils to remain close together without making the mattress too heavy to lift (which is helpful when you need to change the bed sheets). All Sealy crib mattresses are durability tested using 240 pounds weight rolled on the mattress up to 100,000 times! The coils are very strong and heat-tempered for resiliency right in the U.S. factory.

The Sealy Baby Posturepedic Crib Mattress is considered a "uniform design" as both sides of the innerspring are built with 4 layers on each side, so you can use either side and flip over whenever or if ever you choose to do so.

Phthalate is a generic term as there are many types of phthalates. To be phthalate compliant this means the product has pass all testing on the 6 regulated pthalates for children's products. It is more accurate to state that a product is phthalate compliant as it is a compliance test.

Hi Max. This is a tough question as both of our innerspring and foam mattress options are tested to very high durability standards--up to 280 lbs! Since there is currently no comparative test for "firmness" between coils and foam here are ways to consider coil vs. foam, as both are great options. Most babies sleep on Sealy innerspring mattresses because we use heavy gauge steel that is heat-tempered, which provides resilience under varying weights. The Baby Posturepedic uses 220 PostureTech coils that sense baby's movement and respond with increased support. Steel never loses strength over time. Combine that with 4 layers and additional steel structures most mattresses do not offer, it has been a top choice for parents for years.
Some parents like high-density foam options mostly because they are a lightweight option to easily lift and change sheets. A foam-core has a consistent feel throughout and has a different surface feel overall. You should always ensure that the foam option is at least a 1.5 lb. density (like our soybean foam is) and nothing less or it can sag under baby's weight. The fact that our foam is CertiPur-US Certified means it has been tested for durability and air quality. Either one you choose we trust you will be very happy with.

The Sealy Baby Posturepedic crib mattress uses a 9 gauge border rod all around the perimeter. The Posturepedic coils are adult-grade and this mattress does not bend. It is popular because it is firm yet comfortable with all the layers and very well constructed. You would be very happy with this option.

Are the mattress layers on top made of coir fiber or what is called filter wrap? Also, are they nylon reinforced?

The Sealy Baby Posturepedic crib mattress uses a cotton-based wrap and thick polyester layers that are hypoallergenic and very resilient. These layers provide lasting durability and support. Most crib mattresses on the market today do not use coir fiber as it tends to be a heavier material than other materials like polyester and cotton, so there are very few models that still use coir. You must be referring to the cover when you ask about "nylon reinforced". The covers are indeed reinforced with a hypoallergenic nonwoven backing material, not nylon. Hope this helps.

All Sealy crib mattresses are designed with a vertical airflow pocket on the bottom gusset of the crib mattress. This allows the mattress to breathe without the use of small metal vents that may become dislodged from a crib mattress and pose a potential choking hazard to infants. The airflow pocket design eliminates this risk.

The Sealy Baby Posturepedic crib mattress is closer to the 5.6 inches thick when measuring the gusset. None of our mattresses are thicker than 6 inches but we have noted sometimes web sites list shipping dimensions in packaging so that is why you may see it state a larger size.
